TOA Canada Corporation has introduced the TOA Plane Wave Speaker, a flat speaker system equipped with a plane wave unit consisting of a diaphragm, buffer, magnet, and case, enabling radiation of sound in narrow horizontal and vertical directivity patterns. It is less susceptible to the influence of sound reflections from the ceiling and floor, allowing clear sound to be delivered to a limited target area with minimal attenuation.
Since the Plane Wave Speaker can deliver sound output toward a limited target area, it is suited for use in locations such as station platforms and escalator areas that require information announcements to be broadcast, and in such spaces as museums, railroad stations and art galleries where the reverberation time is long.
A double-sided radiation type "D" radiates sound both backward and forward, while a single-sided radiation type "S" radiates sound forward only. The Plane Wave Speaker lineup includes eight models with two types of Plane Wave Speakers available: PW-1230DB and PW-1230DW (compact double-sided radiation type); PW-1230SB and PW-1230SW (compact single-sided radiation type); PW-1430DB and PW-1430DW (large double-sided radiation type); and PW-1430SB and PW-1430SW (large single-sided radiation type).
The rightmost letter of each model number indicates color: "B" for black and "W" for light ivory. The most appropriate model can be selected depending on the condition of installation location.
The TOA Plane Wave Speakers feature a built-in beam tilting function for tilting sound radiation direction about 5° downward from the horizontal and a built-in high pass filter for cutting low frequencies. The metal parts of the plane wave unit and the entire speaker cabinet are made of stainless steel, making the speaker rust-resistant and it is compliant to IPX4 (IEC60529)* water protection rating. In fact, the performance of the unit is not harmfully affected even if water is splashed upon the unit from every direction.
"TOA has done it again. The incredible list of features that TOA has included in the Plane Wave Speakers such as narrow directivity, splash proof construction, rust resistance, beam-tilting function, and a variety of unit numbers, audio radiation patterns and color variations makes them ideal for clear audio delivery even in areas with poor acoustic conditions," commented Rico Lucia, National Sales Manager for TOA Canada.
